All guitar players love licks. It is simply fun to take a cool little part from a solo that sticks out to you and try to figure out what it is. This Lick Of The Week guitar lesson series below is meant to be a fun way of perhaps inspiring you a little bit while possibly exposing you to a style or technique you might not be familiar with. I want the licks to be as versatile as possible so you will find licks on both electric and acoustic and from just about every conceivable style of music. If you find a lick that you think sounds cool try and add it to your own stockpile of licks that you throw out in your own solos. All guitar players have a certain stockpile of licks they like to fall back on so maybe some of these below will make it into yours.

Here you will find a collection of licks in different styles and difficulty levels. A few years back, I was doing them every week. I stopped doing them weekly, because I needed more time for more complete and thorough courses. I will add a new lick now and then, when I have time. Sometimes we need to focus on a long, deeper course, but not always. A cool line or lick can be a great motivator, at times. Just remember to try and work the lick into your own playing, and learn it in different keys, at different tempos, and in different styles of songs.

Since this lick starts on the 15th fret and works it's way all the way down to the first fret, How do I transpose this lick in the key of D or C? To start the lick at the 22nd fret in the key of D will almost peel the paint off of the wall not to mention it probably wouldn't be too tasteful. Same for key of C at the 20th fret. You guys that know this lick, how is it possible to play this lick using the same principle as used on the instruction? The complete speed pattern will not be available in all keys because you'll "run out of frets", so you play whatever part of the pattern is available.
